Notable Trends in May 2021
In the month of May, year over year capital invested and deal count decreased by 24.2% and 8.1%, respectively. When compared to the previous month, capital invested decreased by 19.4%, while deal count decreased by 17.8%. This marks the first month in a row with a decrease in capital invested, and the second month in a row with a decrease in deal count. Median deal size in the U.S. increased 211.9% year-over-year, due to the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. Additionally, deal size is up by 2.9% compared to the prior month. This year-over-year increase shows that even though less deals are being completed, the median deal size has remained around $90 million for the second month in a row. Lastly, the EV/EBITDA median per deal has also increased significantly by 14.9% in May compared to last month.
