Notable Trends in December 2019
Year to date, both total capital invested and deal count are down from 2018 to 2019. Total capital invested is down 25.2%, while deal count is down even more at 29.8%, from 7083 deals in 2018 to 4,971 deals in 2019. Year to date, median deal size has increased sharply from $58 million in 2018 to $88.8 million in 2019.
Total capital invested was the fourth highest amount in December of any other month in 2019 of $70 billion, but it is still down 40% from the same month in 2018 where there was a total of $117 billion of capital invested. Total deal count in December of 2019 of 356 deals is significantly less than December of 2018 of 440 deals by a total of 14%. The median deal size of December in 2019, $88.8 million, is also higher than the median in December of 2018, $58 million, by 53.0%.
